Biography

Some steps in my life have been: Polytechnic Dieburg in Germany where I received my diploma degree in Electronics 1992, M.Sc. degree in Optical Electronics from the University of Strathclyde , UK in 1993. From 1993 to 1997 I worked as a senior research officer at the University of Essex , UK, were I was awarded a Ph.D. degree in 1998 on the measurement and analysis of birefringence in optical fibres. From 1998 to 1999 researched work at the German national research center for open communication systems, GMD FOKUS , Berlin with mobile-ATM and wireless technologies in the access network. Currently I am with TeliaSonera AB in Sweden working with GSM/GPRS and WCDMA planning for indoor coverage and capacity.

Research areas:

Current: Indoor planning for GSM/GPRS and WCDMA
Some time ago: Software radio, hybrid fibre radio and multimode base stations, Mobile-ATM and related protocols. Investigated the limiting factor of polarisation mode dispersion (PMD), and its reduction, in high bit rate optical transmission systems. Developed a highly sensitive Polarimeter for measuring PMD in optical fibres and novel development of a Polarimetric Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (POTDR) to measure the PMD and state of polarisation evolution along a fibre. The industrial partners have been BT Laboratories , Ipswich, UK and Alcatel Submarine Networks , Greenwich, London, UK.
